Two plots of land belonging to Shrivenham’s Defence Academy are now “surplus” to requirements and will be sold, according to the Ministry of Defence.
The Defence Academy, established in 2002, is headquartered at what used to be the Royal Military College of Science site in Shrivenham in Oxfordshire.
Owned and run by the UK government’s Ministry of Defence, the site offers defence and security education to members of the British Armed Forces, wider UK government, UK industry and personnel from overseas.
Now some of that land will be sold.
"Two small plots of land are being sold from the MOD estate at Shrivenham as they are no longer required for operational purposes," said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defence.
"However, the sale will have no impact to Defence Academy activity, which remains based at Shrivenham alongside various other Joint Force Development units."
According to government rules known as the ‘Crichel Down Rules’, departments that have surplus land which they no longer need are required to offer that land back to the former owner or their successors.
The former owner of the Shrivenham land being sold is The Right Honourable Cicely Mary Countess of Courtdown of The Old House Aylesbury.
Countess Cicely Mary will be offered the land for herself or any of her successors, and if a family member does not contact the Ministry of Defence within two months, then the land will go up for sale.
