A steak house restaurant has turned things around with a five-star hygiene rating following an inspection.

The Longwall Beefeater in the Oxford Business Park in Cowley was awarded the rating on Wednesday, October 25 almost two months after it received a two-star rating on Friday, September 1.

Other media outlets had reported a 'rat infestation' following the September rating.

The Food Standards Agency dubbed the restaurant's use of hygienic food handling 'very good' and its cleanliness and condition of facilities and building and management of food safety both 'good'.

Longwall Beefeater was built on the A4142 in 1995 and serves breakfast. It is open until 11pm Monday to Saturday then 10.30pm on Sundays.

Another Oxford restaurant, Oriental Express, was also given a food hygiene score of five last week on Monday, October 23.
