Two pubs have received top marks for their food hygiene standards.

Ratings have been awarded to two of West Oxfordshire’s pubs, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it is good news for them both.

The Chequers in Goddards Lane, Chipping Norton, was handed a five-out-of-five rating after assessment on October 3.

The Fullers pub, built in medieval times, has 197 'excellent' reviews on the Trip Advisor website.

Oxford Mail: The Chequers at Chipping Norton

A customer four weeks ago wrote: "It had been 58 years since I last stepped in this pub and not a lot has changed to the building structure except a dining facility.

"The beer and wine was excellent and the food was matching it.

"The steak and kidney suet pastry main course was one of the best I have ever tasted. Incidentally, you couldn't get food there 58 years ago."

And The Talbot Inn, at Talbot Inn in Eynsham, near Witney, was also given a score of five on September 28.

The 18th century wharfside inn, which has been completely refurbished, is run by Stewart and Jemma Traynor.

It stocks Arkell traditional beers and is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.

It also has eight refurbished en suite letting rooms in a lodge next to the inn.

It means that of West Oxfordshire's 110 pubs, bars and nightclubs with ratings, 88 (80 per cent) have ratings of five and none have zero ratings.
