The politician responsible for holding the police to account said ‘no one should be littering’.

Matthew Barber’s comments came as he responded to a video, which has gone viral on social media site TikTok, showing a fresh-faced constable being challenged for throwing a sandwich crust to the ground.

In it, the cameraman could be seen demanding of the Witney-based police officer: “So, you think it’s okay to pull up outside somebody else’s house and chuck your lunch or breakfast outside my house.

“That’s acceptable, is it?”

Thames Valley Police has already said both the officer and the person who recorded the expletive-laden film had been spoken to by other officials in the force.

“We strive to learn from our encounters with the public, so the officer involved has been given a chance to reflect on their actions and learn from them,” a spokesman said.

Now, police and crime commissioner Matthew Barber has responded to the video.

He told the Oxford Mail: "No one should be littering, police officers or not.

“It's quite right that the Force has taken proportionate action following this incident.”

He added: “Whilst the resident's frustration may be understandable, I also disagree with anyone shouting and swearing at others in the street.

"I don't think this video shows anyone in a good light.”
