A man was detained under the Mental Health Act after threatening to jump off Carfax Tower in the city centre this afternoon.
The man, who was believed to be in his mid 30s, climbed the tower at about 4pm.
Police officers persuaded him to come down of his own accord, a Thames Valley Police spokesman said.
