The sky lit up at 7.20pm on Monday evening after a gas container was struck by lightning at the

Severn Trent Green Power waste plant north west of Oxford.

Police confirmed no casualties but urged locals to shut windows and stay safe on the night of the event.

Residents spoke of a 'very unusual shade of red' and a 'brilliant white light' around the scene of the explosion.

Severn Trent Green Power has confirmed the site had been "fully contained and made safe" early afternoon on Tuesday.
