Witney businesses painted the town pink in support of the 23rd annual Witney in Pink fundraiser.

Shops were decked out with hundreds of biodegradable pink balloons while staff dressed in pink to raise money towards the vital research work of the Abingdon-based charity, Against Breast Cancer.

Pink Day was officially opened by the town mayor, Cllr Owen Collins, with town crier Jean Postlethwaite-Dixon ringing her bell and declaring the event under way.

Singers and musicians set the tone for the day.

It was an extra special day for the well-loved community event as founder Jeanne Chattoe, chairwoman of Against Breast Cancer’s Witney fundraising team, was awarded the British Empire Medal for her unstinting charity work in the King’s Birthday Honours List, announced in June.
