A school in West Oxfordshire could have its performance rating upgraded to 'Outstanding' following a visit from Ofsted inspectors. 

The Marlborough School in Woodstock was seen in July for an ungraded inspection and a report released earlier this week suggests that the visit had been positive.

Ungraded inspections differ from full inspections as the rating of a school cannot be upgraded unless there are significant concerns.

The report concluded: “There is enough evidence of improved performance to suggest that the school could be judged outstanding if we were to carry out a graded inspection now.”

Inspectors added: “Opportunities abound throughout the school.

“Leaders support teachers in utilising teaching strategies that help pupils achieve highly, including those with SEND.”

Another West Oxfordshire School, the Chipping Norton School, was also told earlier this year that it might be upgraded from 'Good' if it were to receive a full inspection.

The verdict on the Marlborough School comes after Ofsted raised the required standards for schools to receive an 'Outstanding' rating.

New standards led to Ofsted downgrading 308 of the 370 'Outstanding' schools it inspected during the 2021/2022 academic year.
