An inquest has been opened into the death of a man whose body was found in the River Thames near Donnington Bridge.

Sergey Ignatiev’s death was confirmed shortly before 9.10am on September 6 by a police officer.

On Wednesday (September 27), Oxford Coroner’s Court heard the cause of 52-year-old divorcee Mr Ignatiev’s death remained under investigation.

Senior coroner for Oxfordshire Darren Salter adjourned the case until a full inquest on March 7.

The short hearing was told that Mr Ignatiev had worked as a navigator, who at the time of his death was living at the O’Hanlon House hostel in Luther Street, Oxford. He was born in Russia in 1971.
