Two Oxfordshire eateries have received maximum scores for food hygiene including a 16th century pub in the heart of the Cotswolds.

New ratings have been awarded to two of West Oxfordshire’s establishments, the Food Standards Agency’s website shows – and it’s good news for them both.

The Swan Inn at Shipton Road, Ascott Under Wychwood, near Chipping Norton, was handed a five-out-of-five rating after an assessment on September 14.

The 16th century pub is operated by a new pub group called Lionhearth which also owns The Chequers in Churchill, The Black Horse in Salford, near Chipping Norton, and the Cock Inn in Combe.

The stylish 'rural chic' local has a bar, dining room and guest bedrooms, including some in a garden annexe.

And Hoofs, a takeaway and deli at Marigold Square, on Shilton Park in Carterton, was also given a score of five on September 5.
