Neighbours reacted with shock in the small cul-de-sac where a man was allegedly kidnapped in the early hours.

Thames Valley Police said a man in his 20s was attacked before being put into a ‘dark coloured car’ in Amyce Close, on Abingdon’s Peachcroft estate, shortly before 3am on Friday, September 15.

Last night, after police confirmed details of the incident, residents in the area spoke of their shock at the incident.

One woman, who asked not to give her name, said: “It’s the loveliest close and the only reason we’ve stayed here so long is because of the lovely neighbours we’ve had. We’ve never had any trouble.”

“With the latest news we’ve heard today (September 18), it just doesn’t make any sense.”

Thames Valley Police’s press office was unable to give any details when, on Friday, the Oxford Mail approached the force following reports about a heavy police presence in Peachcroft.

Asked on Sunday night for further information about the incident in Amyce Close, the force issued a press release on Monday afternoon with limited information about the suspected kidnap.

Detective sergeant Nathan Adby of Abingdon police station appealed for witnesses or anyone with ‘relevant’ CCTV or dash-cam footage to come forward.

“We are carrying out an investigation and are working to establish more details as to what occurred, but we believe this to be an isolated incident,” the detective said.

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police later confirmed that no one had been arrested in connection with the suspected kidnap.

The Oxford Mail asked for details about where the car was driven to and where the victim of the alleged kidnap was found. The police refused to make further comment on the investigation.
