Police came to the rescue of a motorist who was stuck on the A40 after running out of fuel on a dangerous stretch of the route.  

Thames Valley Police’s Rural Crime Taskforce team was conducting patrols in the Chipping Norton and Burford area when it found a motorist stranded on Monday evening. 

The motorist had a young family with him.

Officers took the driver to the nearest fuel station to get the occupants back on the road.

A police statement said: "This evening PC Boyes and PC Smith from the TVP Rural Taskforce conducted proactive patrols within the Chipping Norton and Burford area.

"Whilst doing so they encountered a motorist and his young family who were stranded in a dangerous position along the A40 having run out of fuel."
