Police were forced to close off part of the A34 in Oxfordshire on Saturday as traffic came to a standstill on the key route. 

A police led incident took place on the A34 southbound near the exit for Kidlington at around 2.39pm brought a sudden halt to all traffic temporarily.

Motorists experienced long delays of around 15 to 20 minutes, and traffic was particularly severe between the M40 junction nine in Bicester and the B430 at Weston-on-the-Green.

Paramedics were also spotted at the scene by an eyewitness.

By 4pm, the police lifted all restrictions on traffic.

The incident on the A34 comes following a six-vehicle crash on Friday (August 18) which resulted in two people being sent to the John Radcliffe Hospital.

The crash took place at 1.20pm underneath the Botley Interchange near Oxford on the A34 and motorists experienced 70-minute delays.

Police announced on Saturday (August 19) that two people had since been discharged from hospital with minor injuries.

Thames Valley Police said a white Mercedes Benz Tourismo coach is believed to have collided with stationary traffic.

No arrests have been made but the investigations are ongoing.

PC Shaun Kipling of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, said: “We are appealing for anyone who witnessed this collision or may have dash-cam footage to please get in touch."
