The lack of a Polish interpreter delayed the case of a man accused of grabbing another’s testicles with such force he caused grievous bodily harm.

Daniel Swiatek, 40, was in front of Oxford Crown Court on Friday (August 18) to answer the allegation of wounding.

But Judge Nigel Daly was forced to put the case off for a week as no interpreter had been booked to translate proceedings for the Polish defendant.

He told the court: “As I have already said, I am reluctant – in fact I won’t – take pleas from somebody who doesn’t speak the language and may not understand exactly what he is pleading to.”

Swiatek, who appeared in court wearing a fuchsia pink polo shirt, was bailed until Friday, August 25. He must live and sleep at an address in Hemel Hempstead.
