Unpopular plans to build seven homes in a South Oxfordshire village have been withdrawn.

The proposed development in Berrick Salome, a village near Benson, was pulled by the applicant Mrs S Clayton before a decision could be made by South Oxfordshire District Council.

It follows several objections from villagers and the parish council to the plans.

Parking concerns were raised about the potential addition of up to 14 new parking spaces in the village. Residents also feared that traffic would be worsened by the new homes. There were also concerns about the impact on drainage and flooding.

John Lyons, who lives in the village, said: “Seven properties on this site looks excessive, and the proposed formation of the dwellings will be out of keeping with the other houses in the road.”

Beata Kociolkowska added: “The development will affect drainage, will increase traffic and will very seriously and dangerously limit car parking for all the residents of Weller Close who do not have front driveways and have to park on the road immediately next to proposed development.”

In a statement on behalf of the applicants, planning agents AKT Planning+Architecture said: “The principle of residential development, including location and land use, is considered to be acceptable.

“The proposed seven dwellings are considered to be an appropriate amount of development.”

The council’s decision on the plans was due to be made today (Monday, August 14).
