An off-duty paramedic and nurse treated two people who were in a crash on the A40 this morning.

The eastbound A40 was closed at the Cutteslowe roundabout after a ‘serious’ two-vehicle crash at the junction with Barton Fields Road at around 7.30am.

Emergency services rushed to the scene where two people, already out of their vehicles, were being treated by an off-duty nurse and paramedic who were first in attendance.

A statement from Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue said: "Crews from Slade Park and Rewley Road along with colleagues from South Central Ambulance Service and Thames Valley Police responded to a serious road traffic collision on the A40 at the junction with Barton Fields Road.

"Fire crews provided initial casualty care for the two casualties involved who were out of the vehicles supported by an off-duty nurse and paramedic who were first in attendance.

"The eastbound A40 has been closed as of 7.30am at the Cutteslowe roundabout to allow emergency services to work and traffic to be cleared.”

A Thames Valley Police spokesperson said: "We don’t answer enquiries about road traffic collisions unless the enquiry is about a press release we have published.

"Instead, our Joint Roads Policing Unit and control rooms will post messages on social media to inform the public about collisions that are causing disruption to traffic."

The road has now reopened.
