A woman from Oxford was prosecuted for selling fake Louis Vuitton handbags.
Court papers show Sanghamitra Nayak, 24, of Oliver Road, Oxford, pleaded guilty to three counts of selling goods which bore the luxury brand’s trademark.
The charges related to three different occasions between November 1 and 25 last year when she was selling the fake goods in London.
The case was brought not by a police force but private investigations and prosecutions firm TM Eye. On its website, the company says it acts on behalf of a number of designer brands.
At Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court this month Nayak was sentenced to a three month conditional discharge. It means she will not face punishment unless she gets into any more trouble in the next three months.
The court ordered that the prosecutor’s costs should be paid from central funds.
