Lifestyle chain Oliver Bonas is about to open a new store in Summertown.

The company which sells fashion, jewellery, homeware and gifts, has been running a shop in Banbury Road for a number of years.

But it has now moved into the former Co-op building on the other side of the busy shopping street.

Oliver Bonas is now in much bigger premises and staff said they were looking forward to opening the new shop on Saturday morning.

The Co-op in Summertown closed in September.

Oxford Mail: Oliver Bonas has a new store

A spokesman for Midcounties Co-operative said at the time: “The Midcounties Co-operative regularly reviews its property footprint to ensure that it is providing the best opportunity to deliver for its members and continue to support the communities in which it operates.

“As a result of this process, the Summertown store was identified as not fitting with the long-term strategy of the Society and the Midcounties Board has therefore made the difficult decision to close the store from September 16.

“We’d like to thank all our customers and members for shopping at the store over the years and look forward to welcoming them at one of our other Your Co-op stores in Oxford, which include our Marston, Walton Street and Little Clarendon stores nearby."

Oxford Mail:

The Oliver Bonas website says: "Our story starts with our founder, Olly. His creative upbringing, culturally influenced by the many countries he lived in, instilled a love of design and an exploratory spirit from an early age.

"At university, whilst studying Anthropology, Olly began to bring back gifts for friends from his travels abroad.

Oxford Mail:

"He turned this into a small business and in 1993 the first shop opened, repainted by his friends with Olly behind a second-hand till."
