Start hunting through the attic, TV antiques expert Charles Hanson is heading to Oxfordshire to uncover hidden treasure.

Mr Hanson, who is well-known for appearances on Bargain Hunt and Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, will be hosting a fund-raising antique valuation and consignment event.

No appointment is necessary to drop by and have your antiques, heirlooms, collectables and jewellery assessed.

Mr Hanson said: “Oxfordshire has always been a rich hunting ground for finds. It never ceases to amaze me what people have tucked away at home, often for decades. My advice is to search through the attic or under the bed and pop down to see me.

“Auction sales are booming and we’re seeing particularly strong demand for Asian works of art, Chinese ceramics, jewellery, silver and watches, vintage toys, coins, medals and militaria."

Mr Hanson is the owner of Hansons Auctioneers which hosts sales every month at Hanson Holloway’s Ross saleroom in Banbury.

He said: “In Hansons’ June Oxfordshire sale a collection of Rider’s British Merlin almanacs, one of the earliest almanacs to be published, issued from 1656 until at least 1830, achieved £4,000.

“Amber-type and Barkelite beads are also sought after and a collection of three achieved £900, triple their £200-£300 estimate. But perhaps the biggest surprise, underlining the demand for Chinese objects, was a 20th century Chinese gilt bronze figure which made £600 from a £30-£50 guide.”

Mr Hanson will be at Charlbury Community Centre, Spendlove Centre, Charlbury OX7 3PQ, on Saturday July 22, 2-4pm. No appointment necessary. Donations of £5 per valuation will go to Charlbury Community Centre.
