After a bomb incident took place in Oxford this afternoon, the police have thanked the public for their cooperation.

British Transport Police confirmed that officers were called to the tracks at 1.30pm after they had received reports that device which was believed to date back to WW2 had been located.

Police officers were joined by Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Explosive Ordinance Disposal near Becket street.

The device was deemed safe and train lines are running normally after cancellations became necessary.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “The road, footbridge and rail lines are now open after closures were put in place for a short space of time. We thank the public for their cooperation whilst these closures were in place.”

An Oxford City Council spokesman has confirmed: “We are in liaison with the emergency services over this incident.

"Redbridge Park and Ride is not affected.”
