An Oxfordshire shopping centre is celebrating the year anniversary of its waterfront development.

It has been one year since the completion of Castle Quay’s canal-side redevelopment, The Waterfront.

To mark the anniversary a Greatest Showman-inspired event will be held for free on Saturday, July, 8 between 11am and 4pm.

The event will circus themed with a ringmaster who will be hosting the day, alongside circus skills and craft workshops for visitors.

The Light cinema will also be showing special screenings of The Greatest Showman on the day.

Plus, the centre will be launching its pop-up park and free games area outside Lock29.

Amongst newly installed astroturf there will be a range of games for families and friends to enjoy daily, including giant Jenga, cornhole toss, noughts and crosses and Connect Four.

The games will be available to be used during centre opening hours between Monday to Sunday.

There will also be live music within Lock29 for all to enjoy on the day.

Castle Quay has also partnered with local radio station JackFM, to offer visitors the chance to win prizes on the day.

Cllr. Eddie Reeves, Cherwell District Council said: “The popularity of Waterfront has been incredible - it is a brilliant attraction, in a leading development, that has created a much-needed leisure destination in the town for everyone to enjoy from day to night – seven days of the week.

“There is now a real buzz in Banbury, and I believe a lot of this excitement can be attributed to the creation of Waterfront. The July 8 sounds like a really fun way to mark this anniversary and I hope as many people in Banbury and the surrounding areas visit.”

Oliver Wren, Centre Director Castle Quay said: “We’ve had a tremendous 12 months.

“The reaction to Waterfront has been remarkable and allowed us to attract an even more diverse customer to the centre, as well as to Banbury.

“Visitors love the varied leisure mix we have and The Light, with its premium dining and cocktail offer, has really tapped into a gap in the local market.

“So, there was no way we couldn’t mark this anniversary with something extra-special and a Greatest Showman-themed event seemed the perfect celebration.”

The Waterfront development includes The Light cinema, a 10-lane bowling alley, an adventure climb arena, an arcade, a karaoke room, interactive darts, mini-golf, American pool and a Premier Inn.

The Light cinema also has a rooftop diner with views of the canal, whilst other restaurant options include PizzaExpress, Nando’s and The Greenhouse and Terrace.
