New plans would see a 66-bed care home built one mile from Didcot town centre.

LNT Care Developments have applied for planning permission to construct the residential care home on a 1.13 acre plot at the northern edge of the Oxfordshire town off the A4130.

The plans, submitted to the planning authority South Oxfordshire District Council, would provide for two types of care – general residential and residential dementia. The proposed layout allows the home to be split into the separate care requirements.

A secure landscaped garden area would also be built for the residents.

To the south, on the adjacent side of the road, existing homes are set back from the main road, screened by mature trees.

The application site forms part of a wider approved scheme for up to 1880 homes – which would feature two new primary schools, a new secondary school, a new leisure/sports facility and sports pitches, including a pavilion, a neighbourhood centre, and a new community hall.

In its design and access statement, LNT Care Developments said: “The objective is to provide a character of accommodation that would provide a higher quality of life for residents.

“In addition, it is to provide accommodation respectful of the character and appearance of the area that makes best use of the sites most positive assets, attributes and aspects and reflects the outline approval and neighbouring proposed development.”
