A community transport group is launching a bus route to serve a new housing development.

West Oxfordshire Community Transport, which runs minibus services in Witney and Carterton, are diverting their 215 service to serve the Kingfisher Meadows estate on Burford Road in Witney.

The bus stops in Skylark Way, Heron Drive and Kestrel Crescent mean it will be convenient for residents to get the bus to Witney town centre.

The service will operate hourly from June 26 on Mondays through to Saturday.

WOCT is a community-owned co-operative, running six bus routes across the district and providing vital transport links to rural communities.

Oxfordshire County Council supports the development of these services as a solution to fill the gaps left in public transport.

Local county and district councillor Andrew Coles, who had campaigned for Kingfisher Meadows to be served, welcomed the improvement.

He said: “There are many residents of Kingfisher Meadows who either don't own cars or prefer to travel by bus into the town centre.

"This will give them both easy and cheap access to the town centre.”
