A man has been released on bail by police after a disturbance at a Kidlington retirement home.

Dozens of pensioners were woken when police apprehended a man in their retirement block.

About six police officers, including a dog handler, arrived at Homewell House in The Moors, late on Tuesday.

They arrived at the three-storey apartment block after a tip-off about a road accident in Evans Lane earlier in the evening.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said officers were investigating a collision between a red Ford Escort and a bus.

A 23-year-old man from Kidlington was arrested on suspicion of driving while using drink or drugs, failing to stop at the scene of a collision, driving with no insurance and driving without a licence.

One elderly resident said: "Some of the residents were terrified - some of the people here are aged 99."
