The largest free music festival in Oxfordshire and beyond has been named in the UK's top 10 free family events by The Guardian.

Charlbury Riverside festival gives a host of popular Oxfordshire bands a chance to play on a big stage on front of thousands of fans.

Part of the attraction is the beautiful site on Mill Field, which is a lush green ‘island’ on the River Evenlode.

The festival is entirely free to enter thanks to the astonishing community effort that goes into staging it.

It is organised by a small team of enthusiastic volunteers and funded entirely by sponsorship, donation and pitch fees.

In 2019 it attracted around 9,000 visitors across the Saturday and Sunday.

The Guardian recommended "this family-friendly festival that has been held on Mill Field, a meadow by the River Evenlode on the outskirts of Charlbury in the Cotswolds, for 25 years".

This year there will be more than 30 bands across three stages, playing rock, indie, folk and blues, lots of children’s activities, a green field with craft demonstrations (bronze axe-casting, willow weaving, stone masonry) and a wellness tent with taster sessions of Pilates, sound therapy, meditation and more.

Ale and cider is from the Cotswolds brewer Hook Norton, there is also a gin bar, as well as food traders and craft stalls.
