Didcot will receive 150 new houses – and millions of pounds of school funding – under major development plans approved by the planning authority.

Developer Miller Homes will build the houses on a 36-acre parcel of land off Lady Grove in the north-east of the Oxfordshire town.

The national housebuilder’s plans were approved by South Oxfordshire District Council.

One of the conditions of approval - via the Section 106 contributions - is that Miller Homes will fund schools in the area by more than £2.7m – with £1.5m designated for primary education, more than £1m for secondary education, and upwards of £140,000 for special educational needs or disability (SEND) schools.

Of the homes, 90 will go for private sale - to be known as Hadden Heights – with a mix of one to four-bedroom homes claimed to be sustainable and energy efficient.

The further 60 homes will be provided as affordable housing - through shared ownership, affordable rent, or social rent.

There will also be a new country park and locally equipped area of play.

Katrina Crawford, sales and marketing director of Miller Homes Southern, said: “We are naturally very pleased to have received planning consent to deliver a sustainable new development of homes in Didcot, with huge credit to our land, planning and technical teams for their work on this project so far.

“Hadden Heights will include a range of desirable new housing which will interest many potential buyers, while also delivering 40 per cent of the development as affordable housing and providing a significant amount of open space for residents new and existing to take advantage of.

“The development is really well located, just under a mile north of Didcot’s town centre, and the same distance away from Didcot Parkway station, making the site ideal for anyone who needs to make a number of train journeys for work or leisure, with services to London Paddington in just 40 minutes, or just over an hour to Cheltenham Spa.

“With planning consent secured for the development, we are now looking forward to moving onto the site to begin groundworks, as we start to deliver these much-needed new homes for residents in Didcot to enjoy for generations to come.”
