An Oxford pub has closed down after 10 years as they were unable to settle on a new tenancy agreement with its landlords.

Jacobs Inn at Godstow Road in Wolvercote served their final drink last night (June 5) after deciding not to renew their tenancy.

The pub owners, Johnny Pugsley and Damion Farah, revealed after "exhaustive negotiations" with their landlords Marstons Brewery they were unable to find an agreement that was "viable" for their business model.

Posting to social media on the day of the closure, they said: "After 10 years of Jacobs Inn, we will be shutting our doors for the last time tonight.

"Our tenancy expires this week, but after exhaustive negotiations with our landlords, Marstons Brewery we cannot find an agreement moving forward that we think is viable for our business model, so have decided not to renew our tenancy.

"We would like to thank you all for your valued custom over the last decade, and hope to see you all soon at one of our other venues.

"We would also like to thank our amazing team both past and present, for all their hard work over the years and for making Jacobs Inn such a success."

Pubgoers took to social media to express their sadness after hearing the news.

Sarah Turner said: "Devastated, such a fabulous place. So much work, by so many over the years. You will be sorely missed."

Vanessa Jones said: "I’m so sorry to hear this. My absolutely favourite place. How terribly short-sighted of the brewery to allow this to happen. You will be missed."
