A mother says the RAF has 'absolutely failed' in its safeguarding duties by allowing a serviceman who pleaded guilty to a string of child sex offences including raping a child to continue to live on an Oxfordshire base.

At Telford Magistrates' Court on May 12 Glenn Poyner, 35, admitted four counts of rape, an indecent assault and other sexual activities with children between 2018 and 2021.

Families expected him to be discharged on the day he pleaded guilty but instead he is being housed at RAF Benson near Wallingford until he is due to be sentenced in August.

He is then expected to be jailed.

Poyner has been moved away from quarters with unattached male personnel because of threats made against him and is living in a surplus military house.

His property is being monitored by RAF Police following complaints from parents.

Poyner was given a curfew and must wear a tracking tag but angry parents at RAF Benson say he should never have been housed there in the first place.

A woman who knew Poyner from his previous posting at RAF Shawbury in Shropshire said families must be terrified.

She said: "Apparently he's advertising on Facebook as a handyman and offering discount to single mums. That must surely be a breach of his bail conditions.

"For his own safety he's been moved out of single people's quarters into a house on the base.

"We think there's going to be more victims coming out since his name has got out there.

"The RAF has kept it so hush-hush. The people he worked with weren't warned or told why he was there.

"They were told he was moved as a welfare case but because we lived at RAF Shawbury we obviously knew.

"The RAF have failed in their safeguarding duty and a lot of people at Benson feel that too."

One mother at RAF Benson told Mail Online: "I am petrified that this monster will use his last months of freedom to strike again.

"Where's the protection? There are children everywhere here, playing happily outside. I can't rest for a second.

"He should be behind bars. It is a disgrace the air chiefs still haven't kicked him out of the RAF."

The RAF said it is unable to comment on individual cases and, as the court did not remand Poyner in custody, he is entitled to service accommodation until discharged

The RAF said he is living in a house not adjacent to service families and the conditions of his bail restrict him to limited areas.

He remains subject to bail conditions, an electronic tag, curfew and Commanding Officer’s order that prevents him having any contact with under 16s.

Oxfordshire Safeguarding Team and Thames Valley Police are aware of his location and his ankle tag monitor means his movements can be tracked by the police.

The conditions of Poyner’s bail ban him from having any contact with anyone under the age of 16 other than inadvertent contact in the course of daily life.
