A landmark Witney pub which was a favourite with David Cameron is looking for a new tenant.

Heineken-owned Star Pubs and Bars is advertising for a tenant for the New Inn on Corn Street and plans a refurbishment once the right candidate is found.

Advertising the tenancy, the brewery said: "Within a 10-minute walk time there are over 4,000 people that this pub will appeal to.

"There are several pubs situated in the town centre of Witney.

"However, there are lots of residential properties non-town side which people would need to walk past the New Inn to reach the town."

The pub is not closed but being run by interim management until a new licensee is found to take it forward.

A spokeswoman for Star Pubs and Bars said: “The New Inn is currently being run on a temporary management basis and will continue to do so until we find someone to take it on on a more permanent basis.

"Subject to recruiting a new experienced operator, we would like to undertake a major refurbishment to transform the New Inn into a great quality local offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere and excellent, food and drinks.

"It's in a great location just outside the town centre. If you’ve benefited from running or owning a pub business, we’d love to hear what experience you can bring."

In 2010 the New Inn hit the national headlines when David Cameron took a detour to the pub on his way to the General Election count at Windrush Leisure Centre where he was spotted sipping a Coke.

The Tory leader enjoyed a drink with wife Samantha and dozens of surprised locals before the count at 1am.

He also visited the oak-panelled pub in 2016 to plot his life outside politics.
