The Sunday Times 2023 Rich List has been released and a number of people feature on this exclusive list who have links with Oxfordshire.

The Oxford Mail has drawn up a list of people who have been named on this year’s rich list and who have a connection with the county.

Sir Leonard Blavatnik

Net worth: £28.625 billion

Mr Blavatnik was named the third richest in the UK and in the past he made the very generous donation of £75 million to the University of Oxford.

This donation was made to establish a new school of government and was recorded as the largest philanthropic gift in the University’s history.

The building was finished in 2015 and was named the Blavatnik School of Government.

Richard Branson

Net worth: 2.41 billion

Mr Branson’s success comes after he founded the Virgin Group, which controls more than 400 companies in various fields.

His space tourism programme is not yet up and running and Virgin Orbit has filed for bankruptcy.

Mr Branson brought a country estate north of Oxford in the village of Shipton-on-Cherwell but it has been reported in the Oxford Mail that he sold this estate in Kidlington to his children.

He now resides on the island of Necker in the Caribbean.

David and Simon Reuben and family

David and Simon Reuben have used their earnings from the global metal industry to spend money on London property. They also part own Newcastle United.

The Reuben Foundation has donated £80 million to support the creation of Reuben College, Oxford, and this was initially called Parks College.

Elisabeth Murdoch

Net worth: £1.2 billion

Ms Murdoch used to live in Oxfordshire when she was married to Matthew Freud, who is currently the head of an international public relations firm named Freud Communications.

Ms Murdoch and Mr Freud married at Blenheim Palace and had two children together.

The family lived at Burford Priory in Oxfordshire and Ms Murdoch was a key member of the Chipping Norton set, which was an exclusive group of media, political and business acquaintances which included former prime minister David Cameron and Clarkson’s Farm star Jeremy Clarkson.

Emma Watson

Net worth: £60 million

The majority of Ms Watson’s money comes from the Harry Potter franchise which helped her earn £50 million and a further £15 million is believed to have come from her starring in the Beauty and the Beast film.

Ms Watson, 33, is returning to Oxford University this September and this is 10 years after she completed her first degree.

Ms Watson has enrolled in a Masters in Creative Writing and her decision to go back to the University was revealed during an interview with the Financial Times.

Christopher Rokos

Net worth: £2 billion

Mr Rokos is a British billionaire hedge fund manager and he is the founder of the macro hedge fund Rokos Capital Management.

After studying at Eton College, Mr Rokos studied mathematics at Pembroke College and graduated in 1992 with a first class honours degree.

Mr Rokos holds an MA from Oxford University and is a foundation fellow of Pembroke College.

Rishi Sunak and Akshata Murty

Mr Sunak read Philosophy, Politics and Economics at Lincoln College and graduated from Oxford University in 2001.

Mr Sunak and his wife’s wealth has fallen by more than £200 million over the last year and this is due to the value of Ms Murty’s share in her father’s company Infosys plummeting.

Infosys is an Indian IT giant which was set up by Ms Murty’s father.

Mr Sunak and his wife also have property in Kensington, a penthouse in Santa Monica and a Georgian manor house in Richmond in North Yorkshire.
