An Oxford school has been rated 'good' by Ofsted following an inspection in March.

In their report, inspectors commended the Pegasus School in Blackbird Leys for the high standard of education on offer.

They describe the curriculum as “broad and exciting” while the quality of teaching in subjects such as reading and science was singled out as particularly good.

Inspectors were pleased to find that staff respond quickly to support weaker readers, enabling them to develop “fluency and confidence”, and further praised the school for the “high-quality training” that teachers have received.

The report also made clear that all pupils, including those with SEND, are supported in their learning.

Inspectors highlighted the school’s friendly and inclusive culture.

They described the school as a “vibrant”, “upbeat” and “welcoming” place where “confident and happy pupils are eager to learn new things alongside their friends”.

Pupils were said to enjoy coming to school, with playtimes described as “calm and cheerful occasions where pupils have fun”.

The report stated: “Staff go above and beyond in every aspect of school life.”

The school was rated 'good' overall and 'outstanding' in personal development.

According to the report, the school boasted an exciting extracurricular programme, with pupils taking part in a “rich set of creative, sporting or cultural activities”.

This is supported by other opportunities and weekly experiences which are “fully woven” into the curriculum and which are “at the heart of everything the school does”.

Examples highlighted in the report include “aspirational assemblies with inspirational topics and speakers” as well as “rich opportunities” to work with experts in technology and science, allowing pupils to develop “high aspirations” for their futures.

Inspectors concluded by saying that “the exemplary offer goes beyond the expected, nourishing everyone’s character development".
