Four people were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting from a number of different shops in Witney as a child was taken into care.

After officers were made of a group of females that were suspected to have shoplifted on Sunday afternoon (May 6) as CCTV images showed them leaving Witney town centre in a vehicle.

Police located the vehicle in Oxford and detained the passengers for a search where a number of items were found before three females were arrested on suspicion of shoplifting.

There was also a young child in the rear of the vehicle allegedly not suitably secure in a seat.

The male driver was also found to have no insurance and the vehicle was not registered to him.

He was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting, driving without insurance, not having the child suitably fastened in a seat and taking a vehicle without consent.

The child was taken into the care of the police and social services contacted.

As part of this investigation, officers are making enquiries on where the pictured item has come from.
