A burglar who was caught with the help of an iPhone tracker app has been jailed for more than two years.

Matthew Webb, 41, broke into a house in Princes Street, Oxford, on March 30 – stealing an iPhone and laptop.

The items’ locations were tracked via an app on the stolen iPhone, with Webb followed to the park on Manzil Way, off Cowley Road.

When police officers arrived, Webb was arrested, searched and the stolen digital devices recovered.

PC Chris Kidd of Thames Valley Police said: “Burglary is an offence which we take extremely seriously and will always investigate thoroughly.

“I hope that Webb will use his time in prison productively and reflect on his actions.

“Burglary causes a tremendous amount of upset to victims and communities, and we will tirelessly investigate such offences and bring to justice anybody who commit such crimes.”

Webb pleaded guilty to dwelling house burglary and a racially-aggravated public order offence committed when he was being taken back to the police station.

At Oxford Crown Court last week, Judge Maria Lamb jailed Webb, of James Street, Oxford, for two years and four months.
