A woman has been sentenced for assaulting a man in an Oxfordshire village after she struck him with a bottle for accusing her of suspected theft.

Roxanne Townsend, 32, from Carterton, was sentenced for assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Oxford Magistrates' Court last Wednesday, April 26.

Townsend was confronted by a man in his 20s on March 12 last year for a suspected theft in the Co-operative store in High Street of Eynsham.

After the confrontation took place, Townsend waited outside the store for the man to come out and then struck him with a bottle.

Townsend was sentenced to six months in prison, which was suspended for a year and six months.

She has been ordered to pay £150 in compensation.

Investigating officer Cory Fastnedge said: “I am pleased that Townsend has been convicted and sentenced for this offence.

“The assault caused a head wound to the victim, which he has now recovered from and hopefully this provides closure on the matter.”
