Roger Jenking has written a letter about congestion in St Clement's and says he is looking forward to the introduction of a bus gate there.

I don't know whether I admire more the sheer passion of those who oppose both the Oxford LTNs and the proposed bus gate in St Clements or deplore their logic.

They claim that the former has caused more congestion in the road but oppose measures to reduce it!

The truth is that there have been severe delays in St Clements and in Cowley Road for some years and the recent changes have been marginal.

Counter intuitively these are most pronounced in the evening when more people are leaving the city.

I am not a traffic engineer but I would guess that it is the configuration at The Plain roundabout designed to help traffic leaving the High Street.

Roll on the bus gate. Unfortunately this is delayed by the Network Rail work at Oxford station.

I have suggested to the county council that they use 'mystery spotters' to ascertain whether Network Rail is working as fast as it can.
