New 20mph speed limit signs have been sprayed over in grey paint to “avoid confusion” for motorists.

A number of roads in the county have changed speed limits as part of the Oxfordshire County Council's three-year scheme to introduce 20mph speeds as the new 30mph for communities where there is local support.

This included Morton Road in Kidlington (pictured) which is becoming 20mph.

The signs have been spray painted over by the county council's contractors so there is no confusion until all the correct signage is installed.

A county council spokesperson said: "The signs have been sprayed over by our contractors to avoid confusion until all the correct signage is in place.

"This is to avoid having conflicting signs being up at the same time (ie some saying 30mph, others saying 20mph)."
