A family run mobile disco has called it quits after 44 years due to rising costs and family commitments.

The White Horse Roadshow thanked its supporters for “an incredible journey” as it announced its final disco would be held on New Years Eve later this year.

The owners said they had come to the “difficult realisation” that they could “no longer keep up with the demands of the business.”

A joint statement said: “It is with regret that we must inform you of our decision to cease the White Horse Roadshow Mobile Disco due to rising financial costs and family commitments.

“After 44 years of serving the community with our passion for music, we have come to the difficult realisation that we can no longer keep up with the demands of the business.

Managing director Phillip Wearing initially started running discos in the late Seventies to raise money for Uffington Boys Football Club, which he managed at the time.

He carried out his first fundraising disco at Uffington Village Hall, and the popular evenings soon began to attract people from surrounding areas including Faringdon and Wantage.

The disco remained popular throughout the earlier Eighties. In 1985, Mr Wearing decided to change the name from Philco Disco to the White Horse Roadshow.

He was joined over the years by his sons Jason, who is technical director, and David, who is Operations Advisor.

The mobile disco would customise its shows to the preference of its customers and had a huge music collection ranging from the Fifties and Sixties to the present day.

The family thanked their fans and customers for their support over the years, and said they would “cherish the memories and friendships” they had made over the years.

They said: “We want to thank each and every one of you for your support and loyalty throughout the years.

“It has been an honour to serve you and bring joy and entertainment to your special events.
