A canopy of umbrellas is bringing a splash of colour after April showers.

The unique display will span the entire length of Marriotts Walk in Witney for the whole of the summer.

It is hoped to stage competitions and events to complement the installation.

In January it was announced Marriotts Walk had been bought by West Oxfordshire District Council for £9.16million as part of plans to boost the town centre.

Duncan Enright, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said he looked forward to seeing more outdoor events, more planting and more outdoor trading.

He said: “We have ambition for the site and we will be working hard to look at filling the empty units and also looking at how we can use the great outdoor space to do more to help encourage people to shop in Witney."

The council is also waiving and refunding the fees for pavement licences which allow businesses to operate outdoors and place display material on the public highway.
