Poundland has apologised after appearing to ban mobility scooters from their Didcot store prompting an angry customer to take to TikTok.

A sign appeared on the storefront last week after a door was damaged following a collision involving a mobility vehicle.

The notice said it was “unsafe” to allow mobility vehicles into store whilst the door was being replaced.

The sign read: “Due to damage caused to this door by a mobility vehicle this afternoon, it is unsafe to allow mobility vehicles into this store until further notice, and until the door has been repaired and made safe.”

One woman took to TikTok, under the username m.e.myselfandfatigue, to blast the store labelling the notice as “disability discrimination”.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, she said: “They state this is for safety, but an invalid carriage can enter the store just fine with one door.

“They said they are barred for safety reasons, but people are allowed to walk in and use pushchairs.”

The notice has now been removed from the store and the door has been fixed, Poundland has confirmed.

A Poundland spokesperson said: “This sign was posted by the store team late last week after the door was broken and was removed over the weekend when the door was fixed.

“We’re sorry for the way it was phrased, no mobility scooters were banned from entering and they remain welcome at the Didcot store.”
