They called me a paper candidate when I stood as a Lib Dem candidate in Cowley ward in the Oxford City Council elections on May 1.

Fair enough - everyone is entitled to their opinion.

But when more than 70 local people, including elderly and those with mobility problems, called on me asking what I could do about the withdrawal of the No 10 bus from Rymers Lane and Littlehay Road, all I can do is write letters, which I have.

Now we are awaiting the decision of Ian Hudspeth, the county council's cabinet member for transport.

I stood for election to support local people and despite not being voted in, I was right to do so.

Can I make a plea to area committees and ward councillors? Please listen to your local people. Am I naive in thinking that is your role? The most vulnerable people in your ward need your support. Please do not shrug your shoulders and walk away. Concern, consultation and discussion. Try it!
