Drainage issues on Botley Road have caused disruption to the Waitrose store.

A sign at the front of the main entrance lets customers know the store's toilets are out of order due to the waterworks issues.

The "unforeseen circumstances" that have led to the closure are currently being investigated by Thames Water.

It is unknown if the drainage issues are affecting other businesses or homeowners in the area.

The sign reads: "Unfortunately due to unforeseen circumstances our cafe and customer toilets are out of order.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

"This is due to an issue with drainage on the Botley Road - Thames Water are investigating."

A Thames Water spokesperson said: "We were made aware of a possible blockage in our sewers, near the Waitrose located on Botley Road in Oxford, earlier today.

"Our teams are expected to attend within the next 24 hours to investigate, with plans to clear the blockage.

"We are sorry to customers and staff at Waitrose who are unable to use the toilet facilities at this time and would like to assure them our teams will work as quickly and safely as possible to restore flow to the sewer line."

A Waitrose spokesperson said: "We've experienced a leak as a result of excess rainwater.

"This only impacts our customer toilets, which we hope to reopen soon.

"We'd like to thank our customers for their patience while Thames Water investigates the issue."
