They say never work with children or animals but how about family members?

Paul Green and his son Steve who both work at Stagecoach West’s Oxford depot.

And when Steve started out, his father taught him how to drive a bus.

"Steve trained with two other guys of a similar age," said Paul. "I said he could call me Paul or Dad. All three chose to call me Dad!”

Steve added: “I don’t think I could have been trained by anyone else initially, due to nerves.

“I was certainly more confident as a result of being taught by my father.”

Steve said he also saw first-hand how skilled his father is at adapting his training style to suit the individual.

He said: “He’s still very passionate about all aspects of his job. He especially enjoys giving presentations and aiding his trainee’s progression.”

Paul has worked for the company for 13 years, and in driver training for the past 11.

He said: “My son Steve has only known me as his father as when he was very young, I was a single parent to him and three of his brothers.

"One of the best things about working with my son is watching him grow in confidence.

"The three weeks we spent together on the training bus was an unforgettable experience."

Typically the duo don't see much of each other at work.

Steve said: "I sign on for duty as Dad finishes. I look forward to eventually being on the early roster and meeting Dad on the training bus at some challenging junctions.”

Paul added: “Steve works the late shift so he leaves for work as I’m getting home.  He always takes time to tell me about his day though.

"I’m incredibly proud of him and everything he achieves. He now knows and appreciates what I do every day and that I don’t just sit down barking orders.”

Rachel Geliamassi, Managing Director, Stagecoach West said: “Paul and Steve are just one example of numerous family members working together at Stagecoach West.

"These family ties and inter-generational working relationships pay testament to our healthy culture and heritage, which we’re incredibly proud of.

"The fact that we’re being recommended to loved ones as a great place to work means we’re doing something right and that’s something to be celebrated and championed in the future.”
