A former Co-op store in Summertown will be replaced with an Oliver Bonas outlet.

The retail unit on Banbury Road is set to be split into two, with the northern section to be taken over by the homeware and clothing chain.

A planning application has been made for new signage reading ‘Oliver Bonas’ as well as a new glazed shopfront.

The food retailer vacated the site late in September last year when it was decided it was not “fitting with the long-term strategy.”

A spokesperson at the time said: “The Midcounties Co-operative regularly reviews its property footprint to ensure that it is providing the best opportunity to deliver for its members and continue to support the communities in which it operates.

“As a result of this process, the Summertown store was identified as not fitting with the long-term strategy of the Society and the Midcounties Board has therefore made the difficult decision to plan to close the store.”
