I was interested to see this week that one of the traders at Gloucester Green, Falafel House, can no longer trade from the unit where it has been situated for many years.

The city council is taking the opportunity as the lease finishes to spruce up part of the square which some seats and plants - which sounds similar to the Broad Street pedestrianisation scheme.

It looks like the business will still be able to trade at the markets, which operate four days a week.

For me Gloucester Green is one of the city's hidden gems and any investment in it from the council should be welcomed.

As a public space it can be a little bleak, and could do with being smartened up - but not so much that will lose its character.

The food stalls serving cuisine from around the globe are a big draw for tourists but the square could perhaps benefit from some more seating around the outside of the square.

Meanwhile, The Store hotel is really taking shape on the site of the former Boswells department store.

Contractors may finish their work in a few months' time, which would make an autumn/winter opening a definite possibility.

I can't wait to have a look inside, and see if the owners have retained any of the old department store's heritage.
