The King’s coronation will be livestreamed on a giant television in Wantage Market Place.

The television screen, which will be adjacent to the statue of King Alfred, will show footage of the coronation of King Charles III and Her Majesty the Queen Consort on May 6.

It is just one of the town council’s plans to celebrate the historic occasion.

A special stage will be built where bands, choirs, dancers, and other organisations will perform, and there will be free entertainment and activities for children including fairground attractions and face-painters.

Food and drink will be available all day from a variety of stalls and hospitality businesses around the Market Place. People are encouraged to bring their own seating and tables.

Two large celebration cakes will be baked, with school pupils asked to participate in a competition to design the top of one.

Primary school children will be also given a commemorative badge.

Town Centre Manager Andrea Yates said: “It wasn’t that long ago we were celebrating the late Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations and here we are organisation the King’s Coronation.

“I am extremely honoured to be organising this auspicious event along with a superb working group of councillors, staff and volunteers.

“We have a fantastic variety of entertainment and food and drink outlets, mostly provided by local people.

“It’s going to be a wonderful day and I can’t wait to see our lovely community come out to celebrate this special event in history.”
