Oxford’s best bars and pubs have been listed on reviews site Tripadvisor.

Top of the list is Gee’s in Banbury Road – better known as a restaurant than a pub or a bar.

It is owned by Jeremy Mogford and is part of the Oxford Collection, together with the Old Bank Hotel featuring Quod on High Street, and the Old Parsonage Hotel.

One diner last month left a five-star review, saying: “Superb food and excellent presentation. Staff were so helpful and pleasant.

“No rushing us, solicitous but not intrusive. Made for a really happy birthday celebration - and great memories as we shall be spread about for a while now.

Oxford Mail:

“Recommend the pork belly with black pudding - part if the Sunday roast menu.”

Pubs across the city have bounced back following a difficult time in the coronavirus pandemic.

The top 10 is:

1: Gee’s Banbury Road

2: The Alchemist Westgate roof terrace

3: The Angel and Greyhound St Clement’s

4: Big Socety Cowley Road

5: City Arms Cowley Road

6: King’s Arms Holywell Street

7: The Fir Tree Iffley Road

8: Cow and Creek New Road

9: The Gardeners Arms North Parade Avenue

10: The Harcourt Arms Cranham Terrace.

Following a visit to the Angel and Greyhound earlier this month Annii from Paris said: “Very quiet atmosphere for a Saturday evening (though it was at the very end of the Oxford term, so no students and a few locals).

Oxford Mail:

"Decent food for the price, but I found the menu to be a bit limited. Nice place with a chill vibe, but definitely not a gastro-pub (ie: no table service). The meal was very filling and I was left satisfied after the dinner.”

Kathy M wrote following a recent visit to the City Arms: “We ordered the Bulleit Bourbon BBQ wings and they were delicious - very meaty and tasty. We also ordered the Angry Frank Fries - came with the hot sauce, stilton and bleu cheese.

“These were not so great as all we could taste was the hot sauce. We ended up leaving a lot of those. Really great value for money as you get a lot of food for reasonable prices. The beer cost was very reasonable also. The service was fine. There were lots of "small bite" offerings on the menu.”

Oxford Mail:

The Lamb & Flag reopened in St Giles in October and will need customer reviews before it can climb from its current position of 21.

It closed during the pandemic but reopened after being taken over by a community interest group called the Inklings.
