A council is asking residents' opinions on whether to introduce a new order to tackle antisocial behaviour in the town centre and surrounding areas.

Cherwell District Council and Thames Valley Police are working together to tackle anti-social behaviour, begging and drinking in public in Banbury town centre.

They are seeking to implement a Public Spaces Protection Order which prohibits harmful street drinking and begging.

People will be identified by a multi-agency working group, warned about their behaviour, and encouraged to access support available to them.

If the behaviour continues, they could be in breach of the order.

A PSPO has existed in the town previously, but the council said it was considered to not be suitable to tackle the problems that were being reported.

It said the decision has been made to extend the area it covers.

Oxford Mail:

The council said: "We are looking for the public to give their opinion on antisocial behaviour within the town centre and surrounding areas and if they believe putting an order in place would help limit this behaviour."

The feedback will be used by the Community Safety Team in making its decision.
