One of the boys accused of attempted murder in a Banbury park was told by cops not to worry about ‘being a snitch’.

The youth, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, is one of three boys on trial at Oxford Crown Court for attempted murder and wounding with intent.

Prosecutors say the trio were involved in an attack on Danils Bogdancevs in the People’s Park on June 11 last year that was ‘as quick as it was ferocious’ and which put him in hospital with half a dozen stab wounds.

On Friday (March 17), jurors were played video footage of boy Y’s interview with detectives, following his arrest in the wake of the attack.

He accepted being in the park at the time of the assault, but claimed that he had tried to pull co-defendant ‘X’ off Mr Bogdancevs, who he knew by the nickname ‘D1’.

The boy claimed it was his second co-defendant, Z, who shouted ‘cut’ – seemingly a reference to the complainant having been stabbed – before the group scattered.

Detectives pressed him on his account, telling the child: “Now isn’t the time to be worried about being a ‘snitch’ or ratting your mates out.”

The officers detailed the various injuries suffered by the alleged victim. The boy was told that the knife had ‘entered entirely through [the victim’s] torso, coming slightly out the other side’.

In a quiet voice, the child was heard replying: “I had no idea about that.” He said of the wounding: “It’s disgusting.”

Earlier in the interview, the boy told officers he did not carry a knife and said he would ‘never do’ or think of doing something like cause the wounds suffered by Mr Bogdancevs.

Prosecutors say all three boys were involved in the assault.

The trial continues.
