Debris and dozens of water bottles were strewn on the side of the road after a lorry overturned around noon on Friday.
Two lanes were initially closed off on the M40 junction northbound exit slip road for the A43 and Brackley as the lorry was left on its side.
Thames Valley Police officers advised motorists to find alternative routes as it blocked off the lanes.
There were delays of up to 45 minutes reported by National Highways at the time as the Ardley Roundabout was also partially closed.
It was not until just before 5pm that the exit slip road was reopened as well as one lane of the roundabout.
A second lane remained closed into the evening for "ongoing complex recovery".
