An Oxford falafel shop has closed after the City Council decided not to renew the kiosk’s licence.

Falafel House at 105 Gloucester Green closed on March 12 after several years of serving customers.

One concerned customer, who did not want to be named, said: “Most of the stalls in the area seem to be closed already.

“It's the best falafel wrap stall in Oxford. At least, I think so.

“Hopefully the men who run it will be able to have a stall at the market instead. If not, their wraps will be missed!”

A council spokesman said: “The council’s property portfolio is always under review.

“Gloucester Green has been identified as an opportunity area in the new City Centre Action Plan.

Oxford Mail:

“The kiosk leases end in 2023, and so the City Council is taking this opportunity to make improvements to the site.”

The City Centre Action Plan is a collaboration between Oxford City Council and local stakeholders.

According to the council website, the objective of the plan is to strengthen the resilience of Oxford post-pandemic.

It states: “The focus must be on turning one of the most difficult periods in the city’s history to one of positive response and action.”

Falafel house had a 4.5 rating on TripAdvisor and was popular among customers.

One customer wrote on the review platform: “Fantastic falafel wraps!

“We wanted a quick bite to eat whilst wandering around Oxford and picked up a wrap each from here.

“I had falafel and baba ghanoush and my partner had chicken and halloumi. Both were super tasty!”
